Fly ash

Fly ash is a residue that originates from the combustion process of coal and biomass. Usually, it is captured from the flue gas of coal fired power plants. Depending on the type and blend of coal and biomass that is being burnt, the composition of fly ash may vary considerably.

Fly ash contains substantial amounts of Silicon Dioxide (SiO2) - both amorphous and crystalline - and Calcium Oxide (CaO), both being endemic ingredients of carbonaceous rock. The components of fly ash are, for instance, vital for the production of cement and concrete.
